Terrorists in Afghanistan have a strong belief
that the interpreters for the US military
were like the eyes and ears for the military
during the missions in Afghanistan.
And they believed the first guy in a mission who
should be killed by an attack or an ambush
is the first guys interpreter.
We have seen people wounded, hit by RPGs,
hit by IEDs and some of my problems that I feel right now
because of those accidents.
I would always have nightmares of ambush.
And I would always cry when I'm sleeping.
And that cry-- actually I would be really crying,
but without me realizing it.
And that cry would wake me up.
Honestly, the first thing I was thinking
when I heard that the bases were closing
and the US military would be moving back to the United
States-- I was with strong belief
that the Chinooks would come and they would tell us, OK pick
your shit-- pick your stuff and just-- let's go.
You're all going to US.
I don't blame my teammates.
I didn't blame the US military, they were as much
hurt as we were that we were left behind the first days
that they were moving back.
And I was so angry on the US Department of State
at why they were not pressing my case.
But when I got it I actually-- I feel thankful that I said OK.
You made me wait, I was lucky not I was not killed yet.
And I got my visa.
I'm happy and excited to go to the United States.
At least to breathe calmly and have a safe life.
But the main point, as much excited I am and happy I am,
the more I'm worried about my family here.
